Public Advisory April 2017

Innovative Monitoring of CO2 for Cities (IMC4T) Follow-up Project launched

After the successful pilot in Nuremberg last year, where we’ve developed a methodology to quantify CO2 and NOx emissions from transport based on mobile network data, we’ve submitted, together with Teralytics and Telefónica Germany, a proposal for a follow up project to Climate-KIC. We’ve been awarded EUR 248,000 with a share of EUR 136,000 for South Pole Group for this year’s work. This year’s project builds on the learnings of the previous projects and aims to fully define a detailed business model to commercialize the offering, further develop the methodology based on a detailed roadmap of a mobile network data based monitoring approach for transport on city level and find a suitable legal set up between the project partners.  If you have any questions regarding the project, please contact Mathias Niffeler at m.niffeler@thesouthpolegroup.com. Projects on Green Bonds and Cities’ Creditworthiness

South Pole will be further positioning itself in the area of green bonds and financial instruments for cities with three upcoming Climate-KIC projects. The first project will focus on providing pilot clients, and especially cities, with training and process advice on green bond issuance as well as further developing our green bond climate impact assessment methodology for city relevant sectors such as buildings. The second project seeks to map challenges and potential solutions to environmental integrity in the green bond market (e.g. see graph below – each information flow can pose a challenge for ensuring high environmental integrity since information might not be collected, get lost or be inaccurate). Lastly, the third project will assess the market demand and subsequently develop a cities’ climate finance planning to improve creditworthiness. If you have any questions regarding the projects on green bonds, please contact Viola Lutz at v.lutz@thesouthpolegroup.com.
